PRIDEChicago, the organization that puts on the annual Chicago Pride Parade, announced the winners of the parade float competition, selecting just a handful of the 200 registered this year.

“It’s always hard trying to select winners because all entries are so very different,” read the announcement, on the group’s website.

Sidetrack, 3349 N. Hasted St., was chosen as the winner for the Best All Around Float award for its prideful display of a giant octopus and seahorses.

Balloons by Tommy and Steve Quick Jewelers won in the “Best Business” category, for their colorful balloon display and same-sex marriage theme floats, respectively.

The Gay, Lesbian and Supportive Sailors, or GLASS, tied for best organization with Redmoon Theatre for its “exuberant marchers from the first military recognized GLBT support group,” read the announcement.

In addition, Hamburger Mary’s and Wigs on Wheel’s float received a special mention for being the most colorful in the parade. And the National Gay Pilots Association were also mentioned for creating a homemade airplane float with a van and pilots in uniform.
