PrideChicago, the organization that puts on the annual pride parade has announced Freedom to Marry President and Founder Evan Wolfson as the grand marshal for the city’s 43rd Annual Pride Parade, according to their website.
Prior to founding Freedom to Marry, Evan worked as the marriage project director for the Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund. He was also the co-counsel in the groundbreaking Hawaii marriage case that, “launched the ongoing globalmovement for the freedom to marry” along with several other HIV/AIDS-related court cases, according to the announcement on the PrideChicago website.
Each year, the parade brings hundreds of thousands of people to the Boystown LGBT enclave on the city’s North Side.
Wolfson and his partner Cheng, who were married shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in New York, will ride in a convertible near the front of the parade.
The 2012 parade will kick off at noon on Sunday June 24.
