A body was found in the newly-vacated former location of Gerber/Hart Library & Archives in the Edgewater neighborhood Tuesday night, according to police.
At 8:16 p.m., police received a report that a body was found at 1127 W. Granville Ave., which just a day earlier was the home of the Midwest’s largest LGBT library and archives, Gerber/Hart.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the person as Marcus Smith, 51, and has ruled his cause of death as a complications from valvular heart disease. No other information on Smith was available as of Wednesday afternoon, but sources speculate that he may have been a maintenance or construction worker for the building.
Gerber/Hart is in the process of relocating to the Rogers Park neighborhood.
Chicago Phoenix will update as more information becomes available.
