One man was stabbed to death and another was wounded in a Lakeview area domestic dispute last night, according to a spokesperson at Chicago Police News Affairs.

At 11:25 p.m., police responded to an apartment building in the 600 block of West Stratford Place and found both men, 25 and 53, with multiple stabbing wounds.

Police could not say what initiated the violent argument, but said that the two, who are believed to be roommates, were the only involved. A third roommate was the first to call police after he woke up from sounds of the fight.

Although CPD could not confirm the identities of the victims, the 25-year-old man, identified as John E. Atkinson, was pronounced dead early Tuesday at 12:08 a.m., according to information obtained by the Chicago Tribune from a police source and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Both men were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where the surviving victim was listed as in critical condition, according to the CPD.

Area North detectives have launched an investigation.
